Grant Spencer

Artistic Director
Grant trained with Jon Cristofori and Kathleen Sinclair at Yuma Ballet Academy in Yuma, AZ. He was a founding member of Ballet Yuma, an Honor Company with Regional Dance America/Pacific. He supplemented his training at Joffrey San Antonio, BalletMet, and Pacific Northwest Ballet summer intensives, where he received full scholarships.

His professional career began with Sacramento Ballet where he performed pieces by Septime Webre, Alan Hineline, Katherine Posin, and Ron Cunningham.  During his time with Sacramento Ballet he also became well acquainted with George Balanchine's masterpieces & style while performing in Four Temperaments, Serenade, Western Symphony, Theme and Variations, and Rubies.

Grant continued his career with Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo, in New York City, where he performed as a Soloist in much of the Classic Russian Repertoire. His favorite roles include Little Swans in Swan Lake Act II, Lucille Grahn & Carlotta Grisi in Pas de Quatre, Cupid Variation in Paquita, Spring Waters pas de deux, Tarantella pas de deux, and Stars & Stripes pas de deux. Grant toured extensively with Trockadero to 22 countries and 30+ states including: Japan, Australia, Norway, Thailand, China, most of Western Europe, and Russia at the Bolshoi.

In 2006, Grant moved to the San Francisco Bay Area. He performed with Peninsula Ballet Theatre for 2 seasons, and Company C Contemporary Ballet for 4 seasons. He had the pleasure of dancing works by Anthony Tutor, David Parsons, Michael Smuin, Savage, Michael Lowe, and Charles Anderson.  Grant became head of the ballet department at Dance Connection Palo Alto in 2008 and founded Dance Connection Ballet Company in 2011 of which he is currently the Artistic Director. 

From 2014 – 2016 Grant was Ballet Master with Bay Pointe Ballet in South San Francisco.  Grant helped set and rehearse multiple full length ballets, which includes The Nutcracker, Peter Pan, and Dracula.  In 2015, Grant set & coached Bruce Steivel’s Coppelia, which was nominated for an Izzie Award that season.  As of 2017, Grant transitioned into being Wardrobe Supervisor with Bay Pointe Ballet in order to more efficiently divide his time with Dance Connection Ballet Company.


Jennifer Kulz-Smith

Jennifer received her ballet training in San Francisco with the Academy of Ballet, Dancers' Stage, Lanova Academy, City Ballet School and Boston Ballet School. She has performed with various Bay Area companies including the Peninsula Ballet Theater, San Francisco Dance Theater, and the Santa Clara Ballet. She performed in the San Francisco production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's "The Phantom of the Opera" for 4 1/2 years. Jennifer has two beautiful little girls, Cynthia and Allison, and has been teaching at Dance Connection for the past 15 years.
